The Monroe County Board of Education had its annual child find event – the Kiddie Fair February 28th and March 1st. This started the enrollment process for the 2023-24 school year for Pre-K/Head Start and for Kindergarten for any child that currently isn’t participating in a Pre-K program. Parents with children ages birth to three also utilized this opportunity to have their children screened to make sure they’re on track and/or to enroll in the Early Head Start program. Along with the fun of a Luau-themed event, children were offered screenings in the areas of developmental, social/emotional, vision, hearing and speech based on their age. Immunizations, well child, and dental screenings were discussed with families. Children were given the opportunity to do several fun, learning activities, have their face painted and grab a fun lunch in a bag. Parents were given their children’s screening results and the opportunity to learn about numerous community resources.
A shout out to the following for helping with this event in one way or another: JMHS for allowing some senior boys to assist with the set up and tear down of the event, MCTC’s nursing students, MCTC’s child development students, Monroe Health Center, Monroe County Health Department, Kilcollin Dental, The LIONS club, Aetna Better Health of WV, Legal Aid of WV, WIC, Family Refuge Center, The Health Plan, Birth to Three, Mountain Heart, Monroe County Adult Education, Monroe County Public Library, FMRS Health Systems, WV Works/ DHHR, Monroe County Family Resource Network, Monroe Day Care, Kids Learning Center, and Community Action of South Eastern, WV. Thank you to the Hometown of Peterstown and Linden Deli of Lindside for accommodating such large lunch orders to feed the staff while working the Kiddie Fair.
