On May 17 Jessica Thomas, Monroe County School Nurse organized a full day event at James Monroe High School called Teen Issues Day. Monroe County Schools would like to thank all who came to be a part of this event in any way. The day was full of presenters from all over the region including Autumn Wagoner, Justin St. Clair, Jostin Holmes, Selina Vickers, John Ballengee and Tanya Ware. The topics discussed ranged from mental health, coping skills, Vaping and drugs, budgeting, first aid and cpr, laws affecting young adults and teenagers, healthy relationships and more! Students and staff were also able to visit with Victoria Cox for Rethink your drink, WVSOM for sun safety and poison prevention, Jeremy Dixon with TBI and concussion information, Monroe Health Center trivia and WVABCA for a DUI simulation. We also want to thank Amy Dowdy for her part in ensuring the event went smoothly and Jeanna Carr for setting up a wonderful catered lunch by KC’s Catering. A final thank you to Angie Mann and Tricia King for allowing Jessie to take over the students, staff and your spaces for educational sessions these teens need all day and for your assistance throughout the day to keep it moving.
