The JMHS Archery team was honored by the Monroe County Commission with a pizza party for placing 1st in the State Archery Tournament! Congratulations!





Ms. Cara Altice was announced as the Monroe County Teacher of the Year! Ms. Altice teaches 4th grade at Peterstown Elementary School. Congratulations!!


We would like to congratulate Coach Angie Mann for being chosen to coach and Maggie Boroski for being chosen to play in the Scott Brown All-Star Classic Tournament.




PES students enjoyed watching The Wild Robot at The Ritz Movie Theatre. It was a wonderful way to wrap up their One School One Book program.










On Wednesday, May 9th the James Monroe JROTC program under the leadership of Major Todd Longanacre and SSG Joe Sizemore hosted a Military Signing Day in the JMHS auditorium. Three seniors signed with the following branches.
Miss Abigail Dolan signed with the United States Marine Corp
Mr. Gavin French signed with the WVU ROTC program for a full 4 year scholarship to WVU.
Miss Aleigha Hill signed with the WV Air National Guard (Air Force)
We are very proud of our Monroe County students who are heading the call to serve their community, state and country.






The Governor's School for Tourism is still accepting applications through April 10. It provides 9th and 10th grade students with opportunities to tour West Virginia for 10 days, learning about the tourism and hospitality sectors of our economy through hands-on experiences and introducing various career paths in one of the state's fasted-growing industries. Mrs. Walsh’s class at Peterstown Elementary learned about capacity and how gallons, quarts, pints, and cups are related in this awesome hands-on lesson!







Mountain View Elementary/Middle School is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner to honor local Veterans on April 11, 2025 (5:30) In correlation with this dinner, they will also host a "Paws for Patriots" event with animals from the Monroe County Animal League and the Greenbrier County Animal Shelter. Pets will be on site, pampered and available for all to enjoy. Pets will also be looking for their forever home if that opportunity presents itself. Come out and enjoy the evening with us!

April is the month of the military child. Monroe County Schools is proud to support our students with parents who are or have served. We appreciate the dedication and sacrifices these families make to protect our freedoms.




The Monroe County Board of Education interviewed two candidates for the vacated seat, previously held by Sabrina Stutts. After interviewing the candidates and deliberating, the Board unanimously approved Roho French to fill the vacancy through June 30, 2026. The Board appreciates both candidate’s interest and willingness to serve the students of Monroe County. Mr. French will be sworn in following the required school board orientation provided through the WV School Board Association.
Mrs. Richardson’s HOSA company learned about and then dissected Bovine eye balls to learn more about the anatomy of the eye.
