We would like to congratulate the Boy's Basketball Team for making it to the State Tournament! They played a great game on Wednesday and fought hard against a tough opponent with an extraordinary ending to the game. We are so proud of what the team accomplished through their hard work, dedication, and determination! Always Proud to be a MAVERICK!
The James Monroe High School PEP buses traveling to Charleston tomorrow for the WV State Boys Basketball Tournament will now be leaving the school at 5:30 instead of 6. Due to the back ups on Interstate 77. Thank you for understanding!

Honorary Secretary of State Students from James Monroe High School, Sadie Maxey & Cole Thomas were recognized Friday, February 23rd at the West Virginia State Capitol.
These students worked with Lee Dean, teacher Stormy Thorne, County Clerk Jeremy Meadows, and staff to register 100% of their Senior Class to vote. They have qualified to win the Jennings Randolph Award from the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office again. They brought their families and upcoming seniors with them to the WV State Capitol to watch them be recognized by the WV Legislature for their achievement.
That's an award we give to High Schools in honor of the late U.S. Senator Jennings Randolph of WV who fought 29 years to get the voting age lowered from 21 to 18 in response to the draft age being lowered from 21 to 18 during WW2 with the motto "Old enough for bullets, old enough for ballots!" Our awesome Director of Communications Michael Queen enjoyed meeting with the students and celebrating their hard work!
And a special "thank you" to members of the Legislature like Delegate Roy Cooper, Delegate Todd Longanacre, Senator Jack David Woodrum, & Senator Vince Deeds, for giving these students encouragement and support.
Mrs. Ballard’s PreK class rocked out Dr. Seuss week with funky socks, hats, whacky wear, and some green!

The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission and Chick-fil-A have formed a partnership that extends beyond sponsorship of the boys and girls basketball tournament. For the second year, Chick-fil-A is presenting the Greg Reed Memorial Leadership Scholarships – one to an outstanding female student-athlete and another to a top male student-athlete. The recipient of the 2024 girl’s Greg Reed Memorial Leadership Scholarship is Mary Beth Meadows from James Monroe High School. Presenting a plaque to Mary Beth Meadows in recognition of the scholarship is Greg’s wife Renee Reed, along with WVSSAC Executive Director David Price, Assistant Directors Wayne Ryan, Cindy Daniel, and Dan Comer and representing the 18 Chick-fil-A owner operators in West Virginia, are Richard Jarrell and Mike Wade.
Mary Beth is joined by her parents Andy and Judith Ann Meadows.
