Six trees were planted today by PES students and teachers to mark the first year of the opening of their new school.

Summer School registration is still open! Please ask your child's teacher for a packet and return before May 31st. The Summer School dates are from June 26th to July 28th at their home school. We look forward to seeing you there!

Even as the school year winds down, learning continues in Mr. Hancock’s Biomedical Science classes at MCTC. Students are constructing nervous systems.

Last night PES Kindergarten students, first graders, and second graders had their musical performance. Mrs. Altice and the students worked very hard and did a wonderful job!

MCTC JROTC Instructor MSG Mike Wiley was presented the WV PBS Above and Beyond Award. The recognition honors outstanding educators who work tirelessly to provide meaningful educational experiences not only in the classroom and during school hours, but in creative and engaging opportunities in a variety of settings. Congratulations MSG!

James Monroe’s Owen Jackson and AJ Walker signed with Concord University today to play soccer .

7th and 8th graders channeled their inner child today with worms and sidewalk chalk all in the name of education!  7th grade reviewed math skills with sidewalk chalk and 8th grade dissected worms.  Fun and learning were had by all!

Senior Trip to Busch Gardens!

Members of MCTC’s JROTC Maverick Battalion spent this week in the Wilmington NC area. They toured the USS North Carolina battleship, Fort Fisher, the NC Aquarium and more. The cadets had fundraised since October to fund their educational tour.

Happy Nurse’s Week! Today we are highlighting Emily Atkins who is a LPN with the school and Wellness Center at Mountain View School. She has served as a full time LPN, a substitute, and even as a school based nurse educator over the course of her time here. We appreciate all you do for not only your students, but the staff as well! Thank you Emily!

Monroe County Schools would like to give a shout to Jennifer Smith and Roseann Phipps with MVS for all their hard work and the great things they are doing in utilizing the Unique Learning System in their classroom. Jennifer and one of her students showed off those skills at the April 18 board meeting.

The Monroe County Board of Education hosted the annual Monroe County Art Show from March 20th-April 18th, at the Monroe County Board of Education, in Union, WV. There were over 60 entries from our schools which included drawings, paintings, sculptures, and mixed media exhibits. Our Art teachers are to be commended for their role in assisting our students craft and inspire their talents. A special thank you to Dr. Joetta Basile, and the Board Members of Monroe County Schools, for sponsoring this event and being a patron of the Arts. The winners per school are listed below, in addition to our complete list of student entries for this event. The winners received certificates, ribbons, trophies, and monetary awards.
