One of our goals at PMS is to help students “Get a Life”. Each year our school counselor, Tami Brown, collaborates with the WV Treasury Department to bring this program to the 8th grade students. The goal is to aid students in understanding the importance of graduating and the benefits of continuing their education. We would like to extend a thank you to Mrs. Brown for making this a reality yearly and to the teachers and community member for facilitating.
Please, join the Monroe County Board of Education in congratulating Dr. Scott Womack for receiving the American Legion Teacher of the Year award for the state of WV.

Sometimes some of our best learning occurs outside the classroom walls. Today 5th graders at PMS got to enjoy a trip to the Peterstown Library thanks to levy funds. As an extra treat to celebrate the first day of spring, they also traveled to Dairy Queen where each child got a free ice cream cone. We would like to thank the citizens of Monroe County for voting for a levy which allows our students to experience a myriad of learning environments and to the Dairy Queen employees who made our kiddos smile with a tasty frozen treat! It’s always a great day to be a Pirate!!
Last week, long time FFA and 4-H ham, bacon and egg supporter and SinksGrove native,Tina Canterbury Tuckwiller lost her battle with ALS. Her family has began the process of starting a memorial fund to assist a deserving participant in the swine programs offered in the Greenbrier Valley. Spearheaded by Monroe County FFA member Emma Ballard and followed by Monroe County member Cole Martin and Greenbrier East FFA member Haley Elmore. These three FFA members chose to sell their eggs to benefit this Memorial fund. Three dozen were sold by theses members raising over $1500.00 for the fund. Let’s take a moment to recognize these young people and their thoughtfulness for this family. Anyone wishing to donate to this fund may do so at the Bank of Monroe.
MCTC students will be greeted on Monday with new hallway decor. Each CTE club had composite photos made. On Friday, MCTC staff hung the photos in the main hallway.
There are some little leprechauns in Mrs. Canterbury’s class at PES.
