Parents/Caregiver, The volunteer policy in Monroe County Schools was modified in 2019 in order to keep our students as safe as possible. The policy requires an official background check for all volunteers working in the schools and going on field trips. Those volunteers who have had the class will not be required to train again; however, a background check will be mandatory to stay on the volunteer list. These background checks will be conducted every three years if you choose to continue being a volunteer. Monroe County Schools has worked closely with the Sheriff’s Department to lower the fee of the background check to $18.00. The 18.00 fee must be paid by Money order, Debit or Credit Card. Money order must be made payable to Treasury of the United States. Checks or Cash will not be accepted. Training and background checks will be offered on Thursday March 16th 5:30 p.m. at Peterstown Elementary/Middle School and Tuesday March 21st 10 a.m. at Mountain View Elementary/Middle School. If you have any questions, please contact Toby McMahan (304) 772-4903 We appreciate and thank you for the time each and every one of you give to the children of Monroe County.

For the month of March, Mountain View Elementary/Middle School will celebrate "Read Across America." Communities In Schools Site Coordinator Brandon Eggleston and Christina Dunlap have come up with a challenge to inspire students to reach a goal of books read throughout the month. For the month of March, each student will set their own personal goal for the number of books read. We are asking every student to find sponsors to pledge a total of $5.00 if their goal is completed by the end of the month. The class that raises the most money will be given a pizza party and a movie. The student that raises the most money will be given a $50 Walmart gift card. The money raised will go towards student incentives, so we encourage everyone to give $5.00 to the student of your choice and encourage them to reach their goal.
