On April 22, Michael DeLeon came to James Monroe High School for both a student assembly and parent/guardian/staff/community assembly to shine a light on the epidemic killing our youth which is vaping, drugs, and alcohol. He educated students on their daily choices and how every decision they make has a lasting impression by sharing his personal experiences along with the research he's completed to bring a real-life lesson to them in an impactful way. He also discussed the importance of having tough conversations and speaking up about struggles when you have them. We would like to thank him for this assembly and the valuable insight he brought with it. Each student at James Monroe has been offered a copy of Victoria's Voice (with parent permission). If you would like for your child to receive this book, please submit the permission form back to the school nurse office or the online form that was sent out. During the evening assembly, he discussed how to have conversations with your children and what meaningful conversations they need. You can visit https://www.steeredstraight.org/ to learn more about this program and the Table Talks book he wrote with his wife on conversations with our children. We would also like to thank Michelle McFall for her contribution to this event and bringing out Jeremiah the Anti-Vaping Bullfrog! & a special thank you to those who made this event happen including the JMHS students who provided childcare during the event so that parents could attend.

We would like to thank Michael DeLeon with Steered Straight Inc. for coming to Peterstown and Mountain View Middle Schools to speak to the students about how their choices impact their future. This discussion also included information about vaping which led to multiple students walking up to him to turn their vapes in because they didn't realize the true impact it was making on their lives. Thank you for your unique approach on educating our youth! To learn more about this program, visit https://www.steeredstraight.org/
